The Mayor of Wuppertal, Heiner Fragemann, presented the Berger Gruppe and 13 other companies with the ÖKOPROFIT® certificate at a closing ceremony on October 26, 2023.
ÖKOPROFIT® is a regional project of the Bergisch cities of Remscheid, Solingen and Wuppertal, the business development agencies, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Neue Effizienz and has been an integral part of the region for many years. Funded by the Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Consumer Protection of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the advisory service helps companies to reduce their consumption of resources and reduce their impact on the environment.
This year, the Berger Gruppe was at the start. By implementing various projects, the company managed to reduce its CO² emissions by 212 tons and generate 54,700 kWh of green electricity. To achieve this, a number of smaller projects were implemented, such as reducing waste by using refillable spray cans, improving building insulation by installing new windows, optimizing the heating system with efficient pumps and, of course, the most important project - installing the fourth-largest photovoltaic system in the Bergisches Land region.
The team around Jens Neumann, Jasmin Macht and Marco Peters are delighted with the certification. “We’re on the right track,” says Jens Neumann. “But this is just the beginning. We still have a number of projects in the pipeline that will enable us to further protect the environment and the climate.”
