On April 26, 2023, the FWI held the 3rd Machine Knife Symposium on the premises of the Berger Gruppe. The latest developments in the manufacture of machine knives were presented in ten technical lectures.
After a break of four years due to the pandemic, the Machine Knife Symposium was held for the third time on April 26, 2023 at the Berger Gruppe premises. With over 60 participants, the event was very well attended.
The visitors were welcomed by Stefan Horst, Managing Director of the Fachverband Werkzeugindustrie e. V. (FWI), as well as the managing directors of the host company Dr. Andreas Groß and Marco Chiesura. Thomas Holland-Letz (FWI) led through the program.
The symposium dealt with the various working processes for the manufacture of machine knives - from metallurgical fundamentals of heat treatment of high-alloy steels to diamond and CBN tools for the machine knife industry and the food compatibility of machine knife steels.
In ten lectures, not only core areas such as various grinding processes, but also related topics such as "black marking" with ultrashort pulse lasers were examined in more detail.
In addition to the technical presentations, a highlight of the symposium was the tour of the company, during which various robot cells and CNC-controlled grinding machines were presented, as well as the demonstration of the AGV (automated guided vehicle) from Omron Electronics GmbH during the lunch break.
