Advantages of
strip edge trimming
OPTIMIZATION OF THE WELD SEAM THROUGH STRIP EDGE PROCESSING
ROUND PROFILING
This increases the upsetting zone and the upsetting force that occurs immediately after welding. This results in increasingly large weld seam protrusions, which have to be planed off on the upper and inner surfaces in a very time-consuming process.
WELDING PROCESS
Modern welding processes, such as laser welding, which is the only way to weld special materials well today, require higher edge and contour qualities, as otherwise they become uneconomical due to high reject rates, for example.
ADVANTAGES OF STRIP EDGE TRIMMING
The belt edges are evenly clean and straight and also retain their inner structure on the surface.
The edges are processed at an adjustable angle so that the V-angle for welding is reduced and coatings on the belt edge are removed.
The colliding cross-section of the edges is maximized so that a smaller volume of material has to be liquefied.
- Less energy consumption or higher
- Welding speed
- Less compression and therefore less weld seam protrusion
- Less surface and internal surface planing
- Minimized reject rate
- Material savings, as less strip width addition is required due to less upsetting
- More homogeneous weld seam structure = improved quality
- Use of special welding processes (e.g. laser) possible
- Better mold quality due to lower compression forces
- More constant bandwidth by reducing the width tolerance
- Greater consistency of the compression and thus the weld seam camber
- Coating-free edges
