SUSTAINABILITY

RESOURCE-SAVING WORK
For the Berger Gruppe, the term “sustainability” has had a special meaning, and not just since the
climate debate.

The company lives sustainability in an ecological, economic and
social sense. Our commitment is therefore based on the following three pillars:

Charging stations for e-mobility

Conserving resources
work through:

  • reducing fuel consumption by purchasing electric cars and 26 wallboxes for company cars and employee vehicles
  • Replacing 1400 disposable spray cans with 32 refill cans per year
  • Reuse of filling material and cardboard packaging in shipping
  • Reduction in electricity consumption from 65,000 kWh/year to 31,000 kWh/year by switching to LED lamps, dimmers and motion detectors
  • Use of a drill bit grinding machine to extend the service life of drill bits
  • Company bike leasing

Generate energy:

  • by building the fourth largest photovoltaic plant in the Bergisches Land region with
1900 panels on approx. 5000 m²
  • 735 kWp total output
  • 40% of the electricity generated covers 48% of own requirements
  • CO2 emissions avoided: approx. 320 tons/year

Investing in education and training for future generations

Investment in the education and training
of future generations:

  • Training of 13 to 17 apprentices in three and a half years
  • 40 internships for pupils per year
  • 20 mechanical and electrical engineering internships for students per year
  • 2 annual scholarships for students of electrical and mechanical engineering
  • Robotics courses for pupils
  • Lectures in the field of special mechanical engineering at the University of Wuppertal

WE RELY ON SOLAR ENERGY

Our sustainability offensive

We want to shape the future sustainably – for example with company bike leasing, “Ökoprofit” certification, flood early warning system 4.0 … and the fourth-largest photovoltaic system in the Bergisches Land region.

In December 2022, we connected a PV system to the grid, which is the third-largest system in Wuppertal with an area of around 5,000 m², 1,800 panels and a total output of 700 kWp.

40 % of the electricity generated covers 48 % of the company’s own electricity consumption. The remaining 60% is fed into the grid and can supply up to 100 households with electricity.

In this way, we avoid more than 300,000 kg of carbon emissions per year. A great contribution to a sustainable future – in our opinion.
