The Berger Gruppe has developed a completely new type of robotic feeding system with a star-shaped magazine for welded steel strips. The system is designed for the automated production of band saws and band saw blades up to 5 m in length.

Integrated into the robotic cell are two state-of-the-art 5-axis CNC grinding and edge-processing machines featuring numerous technical innovations, such as:

• Innovative multi-tool holder
• Ultrasonic measurement and process monitoring
• Tactile measurement systems for inline strip thickness measurement and process control

The welded steel strips are ground on their surfaces, machined on both edges, and laser-marked in a fully automated process.

With innovations like this in process automation, production can remain economically viable even in highly developed industrialized countries.
